Crossing Guards

There are over 1,000 school crossing guards in the state of Arizona, each playing a vital role in school safety, helping to protect students’ lives as they go to and from school.

Aside from helping children get to school safely, crossing guards also act as an extra set of careful eyes, watching for:

  • Unsafe driver behaviors

  • Unsafe street conditions

  • Poor visibility

  • Suspicious activity

  • Other safety hazards

  • Improper or lack of use of helmets & seat belts

AAA has always taken an active role in traffic safety and took it a step further by launching the Adult Crossing Guard Program. Stemming from recommendations from the School Safety Task Force, AAA created and produced the state's first ever Handbook for Adult Crossing Guards and designed highly visible vests and hats to be worn by crossing guards. AAA Arizona also participates in the annual crossing guard training, sponsored by Maricopa Association of Governments.

The Handbook for Adult Crossing Guards is a step-by-step guide to educate crossing guards on how to accomplish their job safely and effectively.  It includes information on emergency procedures, local traffic regulations, crossing guard responsibilities and the correct procedure for crossing children.

To order or request pricing information for the Handbook for Adult Crossing Guards, crossing guard vests, hats and stop paddles, please contact the public affairs department.
