“Who is Dave?” you might wonder. Dave, an 18 year AAA Travel veteran, is a city boy from Chicago who moved to Arizona thirty-seven years ago and raised a family with his beautiful wife, Linda.  Looking for economical family adventures, he packed them in the car and explored almost every inch of Arizona, camping and day tripping as the kids grew from small to tall. 

After sharing his love of travel with AAA members for many years, Dave looks forward to spending his retirement on the road and invites you to join him as he visits the places he found the most fun and exciting over the years. Asked how Arizona has changed since he trekked with his family, he remarked, “It’s only gotten better”. Dave’s Tombstone Adventure

DAY TRIP DETAILS:

● Highlights: Saddle up with Dave and head off to the most authentic Western Town left in the United States. Once in Tombstone, you'll mosey down the same streets that Doc Holliday, Wyatt Earp and a host of other Western Legends walked over 125 years ago.  On your return, a visit to a mission at San Xavier del Bac is planned. Not to worry ... your saddle is a comfortable captain's chair on a modern touring van.

6:45 AM: depart AAA Peoria office - please arrive 15 minutes for tour check in.

10:00 AM: arrive Tombstone

10:00 AM- 3:00 PM: Guided tour of Tombstone, lunch (on your own) and free time

3:30 PM: Depart Tombstone

Tour involves some walking and sitting for at least 2 hours at a time.  You must be able to get in and out of the tour van on your own or with assistance. Van is not equipped for wheelchair access.

DAY TRIP DETAILS: Don't forget your camera(s)

● Highlights: You're off with Kerrick in the early morning to Wickenburg's famous Vulture Mine for a two-hour visit before heading to Stanton and lunch at the Kofa Cafe in Salome.  Driving through Quartzite, you'll stop at the Castle Dome mining camp north of Yuma for a sunset shoot. It's a gold mine of photographic opportunities.

● Highlights: Dave's found three of the best places in the Tucson area to visit - The Mission San Xavier del Bac, The Sonora Desert Museum and Saguaro National Park. Exhibits in the Sonora Desert museum are so natural and realistic you might find yourself eye-to-eye with mountain lions and other desert critters. Are you ready for a wild time with Dave?

● Highlights: Travel with Kerrick through Gila Bend and Ajo to Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument. Home to twenty-six species of cactus, it will be a perfect opportunity to shoot the season's first desert wild flowers.  Ruby, dating back to 1877and one of the West's best preserved ghost towns, is the next stop for shooting. Heading home, you'll stop at another ghost town, Arivaca Junction, before arriving at Mission San Xavier del Bac for a sunset shoot.

● Highlights: No sour grapes here! You're off with Dave to the Sedona area's lively vineyards. You'll visit four local wineries and take a sip or two from each one.  A tour of one of the vineyards to learn about the grape-to-wine-making process is on the day's agenda. Sweet.
